Unlike wrapping a gift, properly packaging ferrous or non-ferrous metals isn’t always as simple as putting it in a bag and slapping a ribbon on it. At Green Packaging Inc., we have thousands of options for dimensions of bags but for some particular pieces and shapes, it’s best to use VCI paper or poly.
The rule of thumb is to use at least 1 square foot of VCI product 1-3 square feet of metal surface. In a pinch, it’s also acceptable to use at least one square foot of VCI for each cubic foot of void space, but the former method is preferable.
Generally, anyone packaging metal products in VCI paper or poly should take the time to ensure that every outer surface is completely covered and, if possible, any large center voids are at least partially filled by the product as well.

When packaging products already wrapped in VCI paper or poly, it’s best to keep them tightly packed and in a dry area. To ensure that products are best protected during shipment, VCI paper can be placed between rows or columns inside the shipping container.
