It’s important to keep tools and metal parts free of rust with a metal rust remover. Rust and corrosion aren’t just eyesores, they can decrease usefulness and lifespan of metal parts, weakening and damaging internal structure. This is especially true if you have smaller metal parts—even a lesser amount of rust can cause these parts to become unusable. If you’re looking for a metal rust remover, it’s best to avoid messy and environmentally harmful acids and gels for metal rust removal—choose a water-based, non toxic rust prevention product for metal parts and tools.

Metal Rust Removal Products to Avoid:

  • Avoid metal rust removal products that are generally unsafe, specifically acids and other caustic solutions that are associated with health risks and can potentially cause damage to the skin.
  • Avoid metal rust removal products that can potentially compromise the quality or function of your tool, part, or metal piece.
  • Avoid metal rust removal products that require vigorous scrubbing, brushing, dipping—this labor is unnecessary as there are metal rust removal products that require no agitation.

What to Look For When Considering a Metal Rust Remover Product:

  • Choose a metal rust removal product that allows you to use the product, piece, or metal part immediately after rust removal.
  • Choose a metal rust remover that is safe to use. One that does not require gloves, safety gear, or breathing apparatus.
  • Choose a metal rust removal product that is 100% safe to dump down sewer drains—and environmentally friendly.
  • Choose a metal rust removal product that’s cost effective.
  • Choose a metal rust removal product for ease of use—one requiring no scrubbing. A simple 10 minute to overnight soak may be required, depending on the amount of rust accumulated.

Safe and Effective Rust Removal Products

It is possible to find a metal rust remover product that safely remove rust without using harmful acids that are both toxic and harmful to the skin. A rust remover with chelating agents is just as effective a rust removal products as more harmful ones and they work as a natural metal rust removal product. These natural iron oxide removal products are easy to use—simply soak the metal part requiring cleaning (anywhere between 10 minutes and 24 hours) and then rinse and dry. There’s no need for brushing, scrubbing, dipping, or any labor involved. Many of these natural rust removal products can be dumped down storm drains and into sewer systems, although it’s always a good idea to make sure you’re in compliance with all local laws before dumping rust removal products.

As the owner of a fairly new company, I spend a lot of my time in the office, talking to customers, on the road visiting customers and prospects discussing the advantages of using VCI products (VCI paper and VCI poly bags) to prevent rust on their metal parts.  Green-VCI paper and Green-VCI poly bags are an easy-to-use, effective method to prevent rust and corrosion on metal parts.  The more time I spend working, though, the less time I have to tend to my home, but I decided to take some time this past weekend to tend to a few things around the house.

This past weekend, I spent some time (actually, a lot of time) power washing my pool deck. This is not an activity that I highly recommend to you if you value your time and/or your sanity.  Not that the results were not worth it, the pool deck looks great!  It’s just that it took a great deal of time and patience.  It was tedious and slow work.  I divided large pieces into smaller, more manageable sections, and then worked on those small sections.  When looking at the overall project, the amount of work was daunting, but I remembered an old saying that I like, “By the yard, life is hard, but inch by inch, life’s a cinch!”  So, inch by inch, I completed the task and my pool deck is clean and sparkling!

I am not telling this story in an effort to gain your sympathy, rather to tell you some of my observations as they relate to rust and rust prevention. The first thing I noticed was the awesome power of just plain water.  I did not use any type of cleaning agent, just plain water under pressure.  The water removed years of embedded dirt and grime.  It was amazing to see this sheer power!  It reminded me of the destructive force of water.  Water can erode solid rock away.  We know it is a destructive force against metals, causing rust and corrosion.  Water is an extremely important part of our life, in fact, it is essential.  However, it can also be destructive especially when it comes to causing rust and corrosion.

The second thing I noticed was a small area where I had a wrought iron table and chairs on the pool deck.  There were areas of rust from the table embedded in the pool deck.  Even the extreme pressure of the power wash could not remove the rust stains.  Rust is another powerful and destructive force against metals.

Using Green VCI products will eliminate the possibility of rust forming on metal parts.  Green VCI products perform on a molecular level, creating a barrier on the surface of the metal that moisture, oxygen, electrolytes and contaminants cannot penetrate. This molecular layer of VCI protects the metal substrate from rust and corrosion.  VCI poly bags and VCI paper are simple to use, and extremely effective at preventing moisture, oxygen and contaminants from causing rust on your valuable metal parts.

So don’t let rust ruin your parts and your bottom line. Contact Green Packaging, Inc. to discuss ways in which our VCI products can allow you to worry a lot less about your parts, and give you more time to spend doing those things that you like to do.
